History & Tradition

We are a 100% family owned and operated business. In 1981, Jim and Donna Williams started CPI Pipe & Steel as a full-service oilfield tubing and casing provider.  Soon after, their sons, Dallas and Tyler joined them.  CPI offered an array of services including threading, upsetting, pressure testing, and X-ray inspection services to supply the down hole drilling business throughout the Midwest with reconditioned pipe.

From 1986 to 1994, we had contracts with Shell and Exxon Oil to purchase thier used off shore pipe. We purchased their used tubing and casing, and then refurbished it.  In 1994, CPI joint ventured a 35 mile 14” reclaim project from Centerpoint Energy. We brought all the used steel pipe into our facility, cleaned, beveled and fabricated it for piling, road boring and other applications for customers across the United States. We quickly saw that in the future, through pipeline integrity and increased pressure demands, this would be a beneficial service for gas companies to maximize profits on the abandonment of these pipeline assets. Our first abandoned pipeline removal projects required the assistance of pipeline installation companies. We quickly realized that these companies were mainly focused on removing the used steel pipe as fast as possible. However, in doing so, they damaged, bent and carelessly removed the pipe and did not repair the right-of-way surface to the landowner’s satisfaction.

Our removal process allows us to rehab used steel pipe for construction uses all over the world, such as surface casing, road bore casings, conductor pipe, flume pipe, elevator shaft casing, piling, dredging culverts, etc.

CPI Pipe & Steel is the industry leader in the removal of abandoned pipe with a “resume” to prove it. Please visit our Completed Pipeline Removals for more details.
